What is diabetes nutrition counseling?
Majority of the time individuals are unaware or do not have access to nutrition education to help manage their diabetes. Diabetes is a complex disease and different for everyone. By understanding that diabetes affects everyone differently, nutrition counseling is used as a method to empower clients by providing them with personalized tools and support to feel confident about their health.
My nutrition philosophy
My philosophy is rooted in honoring my client’s cultural preferences regardless of their background. Through years of experience, I have witnessed the effects of misinformation when it comes to managing diabetes. One size does not fit all, but with knowledge and support, it is possible to build a healthy relationship with food to manage diabetes.

Educate
To help those living with diabetes have the knowledge and resources to feel confident about their food choices.

Empower
Provide encouragement and necessary tools to those living with diabetes to understand that you can still live a plentiful life despite a diagnosis.

Support
Support and compassion are great tools to help individuals and their families while learning to navigate how to manage their diabetes.

My practice
My passion for my practice is rooted in my own experience with my family members dealing with diabetes from the Dominican Republic. My approach is to help provide evidence-based nutrition education and assist with realistic goals to build lifelong habits. My goal is to help manage your nutrition needs, so you can navigate your life confidently.
About Me
Madalyn Vasquez, MS, RDN, CDCES
Growing up, I witnessed firsthand how language barriers and the lack of education/resources can impact someone's health. For years, my grandmother suffered from diabetes because she did not receive the proper resources or guidance with her diet. This fueled my passion to become a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES).
Since then, I have worked in community settings, outpatient care and have served individuals of diverse socioeconomic status. I also have a culinary background, which has allowed me to connect with individuals from all cultures to help them navigate and prepare foods that meet their needs.
Services
Nutrition Counseling is personalized for each patient because diabetes affects everyone differently. I start off by factoring in your needs based on personal and cultural preferences. My goal is to instill confidence and education in patients, so that they can manage their health successfully. By doing this, I assist and personalize their meal plans and set realistic goals to improve their overall health.

The key is to help individuals understand food, so they can be able to make their own food choices.
I provide diabetes services to all those in need, which include: type 1 & 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and prediabetes.
